A Soul Surfer from San Diego California, Maui started surfing at the age of 10. He surfed regularly until 18 yrs of age, when he went off to college at Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Maui didn't really surf much for the next ten years, but got back into surfing at the age of 28 and has been going strong ever since. As the founder of Streetwaves, an inner city youth surfing foundation, Maui brings a great love for teaching the sport and lifestyle of surfing. He believes that surfing provides a healing of the soul that no other medium can provide except the ocean. Maui has dedicated his life to exposing inner city youth to surfing. "What I have found in the ocean lies only in the ocean. Come let me introduce you to your new 'life'." Peace and LOVE, "Maui"
Annie is a true ocean girl at heart. She has always had a passion for surfing. In her high school years she was a lifeguard and swim instructor in Ft Lauderdale, she founded a program called "Making Waves", which collaborated with Outreach Broward (an organization that houses abused children). The program’s mission was to teach these children how to swim at their local pool and gradually make it to the beach, where they would learn how to surf. Annie has always believed that the ocean is healing and knew they could benefit from this and perhaps fall in love with the ocean as she had. Making Waves was a great success and the children loved it.
Some of Annie's past accomplishments include: sponsored competitive surfing; numerous photos in surf magazines; and writing about her travels with her son, Kai. In 2008, her and Kai were featured in the Miami Herald. This free-loving jack-of-all-trades also managed to get her Master's degree in Architecture from the University of Miami and put it to good use by building some of her designs in Nicaragua. Currently Annie resides in Miami Beach doing what she loves most: teaching kids and adults to surf.
"Not to sound too out there, but, there‘s something that happens within us as we step into the ocean. We become a part of it...and then, to go on and ride the energy of it...well, I think that’s pretty cool. I’d like to share the ability to do that with as many as I can."
Some of her favorite spots include Hawaii, Fiji, The Caribbean, South Africa and France. "There are so many great waves out there in beautiful and exotic locales. Eventually, I’d like to take groups of SoBe surfers on adventures around the world with us!"
Lauren Moss grew up on the beaches of Jacksonville and St.Augustine, Florida. She has always loved surfing and living a life which revolved around the ocean. As a teenager, she was a nationally-competitive swimmer, and in her free time she taught swim lessons and water safety courses for the new generation of water lovers.
As Lauren got older, she worked as a lifeguard, organizing events with the neighboring beaches to hold lifeguarding contests to raise money for charity and other local events. She of course found plenty of time for surfing contests, where she was in the North FL ESA chapter, NSSA, and many other contests. Always having a passion for traveling, she was able to surf many amazing places and learned from the local culture and beautiful people.
To be able to share what she loves with her friends and clients brings a smile to her face. Lauren came to Miami in 2005 to go to graduate school in the architecture program at the University of Miami. She lives now in Miami Beach, and can be seen with the rest of the wonderful family of SoBe Surf out in the water.
