About SoBe Surf

SoBe Surf was founded by Girard Middleton, who has been a member of the South Beach community and Florida surfing family for many years. Girard has a Masters in Education, served as Principal of a school in Abacos, Bahamas, Lifeguard Certified, served as Team Chaplain (Sports Counselor) for the University of Miami football and baseball teams, and has made teaching surfing his passion. "I love helping people fulfill their dream of surfing and in having an amazing experience with the ocean."

In 2002, Girard began teaching surfing lessons near his home in South Beach. "I remember how frustrating it was for me to learn surfing without any help when I began 28 years ago. All the unnecessary fears you build up just from not having any coaching, not knowing how to manage yourself in the ocean or having proper surfing techniques and mind set."

Credited for introducing stand-up paddle (or SUP) surfing to South Beach, Girard Middleton and his experienced staff offer a variety of services including surfing lessons (individuals, groups, corporate parties), summer surf camps, excursions, board & equipment rentals and sales, clinics, as well as a variety of out-door health & exercise-oriented events.
